In ranking these companies, I will be using their current ‘Direct Written Premiums’ recorded. Direct written premiums are the total of premiums written by an insurance company within a given period before considering reinsurance ceded.
So, an insurance company gets more premiums when they are good at what they do and as well considered to be the best, for being able to drive in more clients (insured) to their company.
The health insurance industry in 2020 recorded a direct written premium of $1.25trillion and these 10 companies which I will be listing out, wrote 55.3% of it according to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).
