What are wrinkles?

Wrinkles can be a natural part of aging most times and are most common on areas of the skin rampantly exposed to the sun such as the face, neck, hands and forearms.

 

Although, Genetics is the major determinant of skin structure and texture, exposure to the sun is also one of the major causes of wrinkles especially for people with light skin. Pollutants and smoking also constitute to the wrinkling of the face.

Wrinkles are lines that form on the skin. Some wrinkles can become deep cracks or furrows and may be most obvious around the face region such as the eyes, mouth and neck.

 

Causes of Wrinkles

Smoking. Smoking can increase the normal aging process of the skin leading to wrinkles which could be due to smoking’s effect on a skin’s tissue, collagen.

 

Repeated facial expressions: Facial movements and expressions, such as squinting or smiling can cause fine lines and wrinkles. Each time a facial muscle is being used, a depression forms underneath the surface of the skin. These grooves then become permanently fixed on the face.

Forehead lines: They run horizontally across the top of the T-zone.

Bunnies: They are etched in between the bridge of the nose horizontally and the eyes.

Lip lines: They form vertical hatches around the outer limits of the mouth.

 

Marionette lines: They support the chin vertically, and as the cheeks sag, wrinkles begin to form at the jaw.

Dynamic Wrinkles: These develop from repeated facial movements and expressions. For instance, if you often squeeze your lips around a straw, you might end up getting lip lines.

 

Static wrinkles: They come about from a loss of elasticity. Examples of static wrinkles include jowl wrinkles (wrinkles at the jaws).

ü Reducing sugar intake

ü Staying hydrated

ü keeping off from smoking

ü Exercising and having adequate rest and sleep

These habits can be most times hard to change as one has gotten used to them but at the same time, make consistent efforts to change and soon enough the new changes develop into positive habits.

 

We most times do our best to prevent wrinkles by purchasing serums and creams but in real sense wrinkles can’t be totally prevented because one way or another, a few or more lines and creases will eventually become visible can be an added value.

 

And that’s alright, you do not need to beat yourself over it because maybe a bonus it could be.
